Just a follow up on the DDWRT firmware update,
I was able to update my Linksys WRT54G V8 router without "bricking" it.
Key things when doing the updates are

1. Make sure your router AND computer is plugged in to a working UPS incase electricity fails during the update.
2. Read the DDWRT instructions carefully before doing the update.
3. For this linksys router, you must do upload the VXWORKSKILLER update file via the Linksys web interface first.
4. Then upload micro_generic ddwrt bin file using the TFTP program.
5. Give it a few seconds after to take effect and then BADDA BING! DDWRT is on!
